A new study published in the journal "Acupuncture in Medicine" (2012 Aug 21) shows that acupuncture can be quite effective in constipated children.
The study took 10 children with hospital-induced constipation. They then stimulated the acupuncture point LI11.
RESULTS:
Acupuncture was well tolerated and accepted by all children, without fear. There were no observed side effects. Best of all, all constipated children defecated within 2 hours of the acupuncture stimulation. No child required the use of conventional constipation therapy (laxatives).
Those results are pretty astounding, even though the study was performed on a fairly small sample. If your child is constipated, definitely give acupuncture a try.
